Jennifer emailed--I am a lbka 3/13/14. I just received my 1st leg 2 days ago. A day I was looking forward to and expected happiness shockingly was anything but. I expected the leg to be uncomfortable and not feel honky dory but I was sent to the moon with the pain. I tried to struggle through it but the sweating and feeling faint was horrible. I kept telling the prosthetic Tech and he would make adjustments. Im still having same problem. Its so tight around the at my knee. I did 4 walks up and down the rail bars and that night at home I still had red marks on side of knees. My granddaughters wanted to see my leg on the next morning but leg hurt and swollen that I couldnt get it on. My question is if this is a normal part of the process? I truly understand this is not going to be easy and will be discomforts. I just never seen anyone talk about the feelings good or bad when it came to their 1st walk and days after. My family says well it hasnt even been 2 months since amputation surgery so its going to be very tender around knee. My response is why didnt my tech say that? I was told leg has to fit tight to stay on. I realize that but if you cant breathe or get the leg back on then what? If this is normal and it just will take time and maybe in start I can only have leg on every other day for short periods? ? ? My spirits are just down. I know everyone is different but could below knee amputees share their 1st experience as to fitting, pain, leg reaction, and suggestions. Was the side of your knees very sensitive? Thank you for your help. Since this situation is new and dont have life experience to compare to its hard to understand sometimes what is normal.
