Jer 19:14 Jeremiah then returned from Topheth, where the LORD had - TopicsExpress

Jer 19:14 Jeremiah then returned from Topheth, where the LORD had sent him to prophesy, and stood in the court of the LORD’s temple and said to all the people, “This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: ‘Listen! I am going to bring on this city and the villages around it every disaster I pronounced against them, because they were stiff-necked and would not listen to my words.’ ” Why would God bother to warn people who He knew would probably not listen? Over and over again God tells Jeremiah to prophesy about the impending judgment, knowing that they would more than likely refuse to believe any of it. Did God just want to make Jeremiah’s life miserable? Was God just playing games? Of course not. God warns obstinate people for several reasons. First, we are not preprogrammed to behave a certain way. As long as there is breath in our body there is hope that we will listen and repent. Second, for God’s judgments to be just, no one can stand before Him and claim ignorance. We all have had ample warning. Lastly, God warns because He loves us. He could justly bring condemnation without saying anything more to us, but over and over again He tries to reach us so we can receive His mercy. Have you heeded the message of the Lord? As long suffering as God is, there will come a time when the warnings turn into actual judgment. Listen to God while His grace is available!
