Jeremiah 32-34 provided a great challenge and encouragement as I - TopicsExpress

Jeremiah 32-34 provided a great challenge and encouragement as I read this morning. First, I was reminded of the importance of aligning my actions with what I profess to believe. While Jeremiah repeatedly pronounced judgment on Judah, he also proclaimed that the Lord would restore the people to the land he had promised them (29:10). Jeremiah was instructed to buy a field in Judah and have the deeds preserved for his relatives who would return to the land after his death (32:1-13). He was to put his money where his mouth was. Does my commitment to giving to the Lord’s work match my professed commitment to his work in our world? Does my use of money in general as well as my lifestyle reflect that I am seeking first the kingdom of God (Matt. 6:33)? Second, I was reminded of God’s mighty power to heal and restore. The Lord challenged the people to call upon him and promised to show them great and mighty things (Jer. 33:3). The following verses reveal that the great and mighty things include restoration to the land and the blessings that came with that restoration (33:1-17). If God could perform such a mighty act of healing and restoration for that nation, he can bring healing and restoration to broken lives today. The two reasons for believing this is the Lord’s great power and faithfulness. He is the creator of the universe (32:17; 33:1-2). The creation is an undeniable demonstration of his great power. He is also the faithful God who never forgets his promises. In spite of Israel’s great sin and sad condition, God’s covenant with them was as strong as his covenant with the day and the night (33:19-22). Every sunrise and sunset reminds us of God’s enduring promises to his people.
