Jeremiah Denton - War Hero, Rear Admiral & US Senator – died today. He began his career as a blimp pilot in WWII and was ultimately shot down over North Vietnam in an A6 Intruder. An amazing life: repeated beatings and torture while in 8 years of solitary confinement , blinked the words TORTURE in a forced TV interview, finished a 34 year career as a Naval Officer, wrote a book (“When Hell was in Session”)and became a became a U.S Senator. I believe he had an iron will: after 8 years of living in a 3’x9’ cell he said upon his release We are honored to have had the opportunity to serve our country under difficult circumstances. We are profoundly grateful to our Commander-in-Chief and to our nation for this day. God bless America. I am friends with his son Jerry Denton, an Attorney in Virginia Beach. We were partners in a plane for 10 years. I find it fascinating that his son, Jerry, served as a Cobra and Huey pilot in Vietnam while his dad was a Vietnam POW. A few years ago I was invited to a party at Jerry’s where every guest was asked read a piece of aviation literature or poetry. It was an amazing night; it was a true honor to have attended. Admiral Denton was there too, among a few other war heroes and members of various Aviation Halls of Fame. There were not too many dry eyes in the room when Admiral Denton, in his mid 80’s, stood up and read a poem and we watched him get a tear in his eye. https://youtube/watch?v=BgelmcOdS38
