:( Jeremias was a sweet, upstanding young man from Passaic, NJ. He is a member of a solid, stable family that consists of his mom, dad and 3 brothers and 1 sister. In fact, 2 of his brothers also serve in the Armed Forces (Marines & Army). I work with his father, Severiano, at the Passaic Housing Authority for over 20 years. As the Youth Services Coordinator, I watched him grow up. While in high school, during summer break, Jeremias worked for us. His father, a super hard worker with a quiet demeanor, would swell with pride anytime he heard the positive comments from his fellow employees as well as residents regarding his son. When Jeremias graduated and joined the Armed Forces, we continued to lift him in prayer for a safe return from the Middle East. After a safe return, though he relocated, he always made a point to come to say hi, whenever he came to visit his beloved family. This is such a devastating loss that is so senseless. For Jeremias to serve and survive in a war zone, come home, get married, and then die protecting his home and wife is incomprehensible to all of us. Our city is only 3.2 sq. miles; our population is about 80,000, yet everyone knows each other. My grandson and granddaughter, who graduated with Jeremias, along with his other classmates, are so upset and quite a few are inconsolable. Our city, which just honored our veterans with a fantastic Memorial Day Parade and ceremony, is saddened and all flags are at half-mast at the schools and government facilities out of respect for the life and contributions of this brave young man. Please lift the Ortiz family in your prayers as they bring their beloved son back home for his funeral and burial next week. May our Heavenly Father grant them His love, mercies and enduring strength to shoulder this tremendous loss. As we pray for his family, let’s also lift our prayers for other American families who are being torn apart by the increasing senseless violence in our country. May God have mercy on us all :(
