Jeremy Runnels (author of the letter to CES director) feel this - TopicsExpress

Jeremy Runnels (author of the letter to CES director) feel this young man totally gets it. I would have to vehemently disagree, I think he makes valid points, but the thing he misses most is personal responsibility. In fact when that idea was suggested by a seminary instructor, he was beyond himself with shock. I for one havent ever openly discussed (as he suggests) a doubt of the gospel with anyone , outside of my mom on occasion or 2. I have always done my own research, and digging staying grounded and rooted in the scriptures and what I know to be true, rather than entertaining the skeptics position. Now Im probably 10 years ahead generationally speaking of this rising generation of doubters, but almost all of the things he claims need to be handled in a group setting, are actually much better resolved through personal study and inquiry to The Lord alone. Which is why CES doesnt address them. Could there be improvements or courses offered on the difficult topics? Yes but nothing will ever met the needs of all involved outside of personal study of course. Should the church acknowledge the tough stuff exists? Yes and it should provide resources for addressing it. Oh wait it has with the essays (improveable as they may be) also millions of members overcame these incredibly troubling things for decades without groups with which to discuss them. Perhaps my experience is unique, but growing up I knew plural marriage was taught and practiced by Joseph, that Emma didnt agree with it all, blacks and the priesthood, my escort even told me the endowment had changed. and I learned this at home and in seminary, and YMs and other locations. Like I said I may generationally be out of place but it seems to me this young man has missed the forest, in his complaints of all the trees blocking his path. https://m.youtube/watch?v=67IUWnFBmZY
