Jerusalem. City bus, number 68. I take the seat closest to the driver. Thats the safest place away from endless mobile talks that drive me nuts. Its noisy in the bus. Sounds of music softly surround the drivers seat. I cant hear it very well, but they sound like old Indian cinema music. It brought to my mind memories from the little street that was my home for four years in South India. I try to listen, but cant recognize the language, its just that the progression of the melody and the rhythm sounds like old Hindustani films music. The driver taps with his fingers on the wheel. Is it Indian music? I ask him. No, he says. Oh, then what is it? Its nice. Its from Egypt. Oh. Who is it then? Its Abd al-Halim. Really nice. Ill look it up on Youtube. The bus reaches the central bus station. As I get off, I turn around and say, Shukran. He smiles and says, Ma3 a-salaam. I turn to him and say, Ma3 a-salaam, putting a little effort into pronouncing the guttural 3. Now I found him, Abd al Halim. Not exactly what he played in the bus, but very similar. youtube/watch?v=K8PmAF6eG6c
