Jessica Wunder wanted me to list ten video games that have impacted my life. Im not sure about impacted, but I can list games that have consumed large portions of my life. In no particular order: 1. Civilization series, Master of Orion series, Master of Magic, Age of Wonders. Lumping them together may be a bit of a cheat, but theyre all quintessential 4X games. 2. Wizardry. My first computerized RPG (not really a matter of roleplaying, of course). It devoured much time that *should* have been spent on high-school homework. 3. World of Warcraft. Not my first MMORPG, but the one I think Ive spent the most time in. City of Heroes and Rift are runners up. 4. Samurai Shodown II. The only fighting game Ive ever been any good at. It led me, in a fit of madness, to purchase an imported Neo Geo, during the few months when the game was slated for a U.S. release. 5. F-19 Stealth Fighter. An early combat flight simulator that could run on my handicapped Tandy 1000. It emphasized evasion over dogfighting. 6. Fire Shark. An overhead shooter for the Sega Genesis. Nothing special about it, but it was one of the few shooters that was just the right difficulty for me. 7. Master of Monsters. A strategy game for the Genesis. Build armies of monsters, train them up, stomp your opponents. Game play wasnt deep, but was good enough...and I really liked the fantasy aesthetics. 8. Diablo 2. Fantasy heroes of mass destruction! 9. Warlords: Battlecry III. The only real-time-strategy game I could ever play. Nifty fantasy factions, not too fast. 10. Final Fantasy VII. The animated cut scenes impressed me so much (at the time), I was persuaded to buy a Playstation. Sadly, I didnt like the game play enough to actually finish the game, but still love the story. Hmmmm, I detect a distinct bias toward fantasy gaming....
