Jessica, music has always been important to me bc it helps me express whats in my heart (or head) in a way that Im not able to sometimes. Each year what Im reminded on this day is the song I sang to you. It was Christmas time and I heard it on the radio after you were born and it made me cry thinking how perfect this was as our (yours and my) song. There were actually two songs as you know that meant so much to me as our song. One, The Best Gift by Barbra Streisand and the second, For Baby by Evie Tornquist. Each of them had their God-given purpose at the time that gave me hope and that I seemed to cling to. I can remember both just like it was yesterday. The Best Gift was truly what I felt that I received. My very own little baby born to me at Christmas time -- AND -- on my own birthday to boot! I can remember being in a hall on a bed heading to delivery and the nurse stopped to read my hospital arm bracelet and she said well Happy Birthday Mom! Well try and make this the least painful we can for the best gift youll ever receive. She told the doctor it was my birthday so they all hurried to make sure you were born on that day. I never knew what a gift that would be, but it truly is. Thats why The Best Gift song became our song and I think of every year when I celebrate your birthday. Then after you and I became a family of our own just 6 weeks later, I heard this song on an album I was listening to. She was a friend of a dear person to me (Theta Hall) who was like a momma to me. It was called For Baby. It was PERFECT for how I felt at the time. I was TERRIFIED having to be a single mom after learning you and I would be on our own and I was going to be getting a divorce. The song became my anthem for you -- another our song that helped me get us through what we needed to get through at the time. The first part of the song said it all to me on what I would be doing for you... I did my very best as your mom and as you know couldnt have wished for a better man to be your new daddy when you were almost 2 years old. One that would protect you, provide for you and love you as a daddy should. One that would give you sisters and provide for us both a family. He indeed was OUR best gift who continued giving to you by making you his own legally. He chose you to be his daughter by adopting you which is another Best Gift for us both!
