Jesus answered and said to him, Truly, truly, I say to you... - TopicsExpress

Jesus answered and said to him, Truly, truly, I say to you... Truly, truly, I say to you... Truly, truly, I say to you... (John 3:3,5,11, NASB). Have you ever wondered why Jesus spoke like this? Why did He say, Truly, truly so much? When Jesus used these words He was putting Himself in a class all by Himself. No other person ever dared to use these words to introduce a statement. The word truly is amen in Greek. Basically this word speaks of firmness, dependability and constancy. It could be translated, surely, surely, certainly, certainly, absolutely, absolutely, or even positively, positively. You get the idea? These words were used as an oath in court before a sworn testimony was about to be given. When Jesus is speaking like this He is signing His name to what He says, He is making sure we understand that He guarantees its veracity. You can count on what Jesus says. He even takes Amen as one of His names! (Revelation 3:14a). Jesus is also the Amen, the affirmation of Gods truth; everything He promises is trustworthy and sure.
