Jesus brought forgiveness of your sin, not forgiveness of your deeds. Written By: William Wimbs Acts 13:38 Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins: Eph 1:7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace; Col 1:14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: In that respect are other verses of scripture in addition to these three that has the phrase forgiveness of sins. Take some time and look them up and read them. You hear many people state that they themselves have been forgiven and they will cite one or more of these verses in support of their claim, but these scriptures do not suppose that the person themselves have been forgiven. Before God could save you, he had to forgive you of your sins. Jesus Christs sacrificial death on the cross; did that for you. However, your faith that Jesus died to pay our sin debt, according to the scriptures, was buried, and rose again according to the scriptures and by grace, the almighty God saved you. Until you believe it and accept it, you are still bound for Hell. Study the scriptures again, and tell me, what do the scriptures say is forgiven, is it the believer or the sins of the believer that has been forgiven? It is the believers sins not the believer, the believer must believe and accept the gospel before he is saved. Everyones sin is forgiven, but not everyone is saved there is no universal salvation taught in the Scriptures. Now, I know that there are a great many people who do not agree with my understanding of the scriptures, but I try very hard to let them say what they mean and mean what they say. I believe the bible says what it says the way it says it for a reason. I believe with all my heart that the bible teaches that Jesus Christ paid for all of our sins past, present, and future. I believe God forgave all the sins of the world saint and sinner alike when Jesus hung on the cross and I believe your sins were paid for at that time. We already have our sins put away and sin is not an issue today, the putting away of our sins was automatic it happened before we were born. But in order for you to be part of the Body of Christ you must first accept Jesus Christ, and the work of the cross, you must believe the gospel 1 Cor 15:1-4. My friends you are forgiven when you believe and accept this gospel it is at this time that you put off the old man and become a new creature in Christ. No one is automatically saved even though his or her sins were automatically forgiven by grace. Your sins are gone. Nevertheless, your unbelief is still with you, until you believe and trust the finished work of Christ on the cross. While it is very true that your sins are forgiven and are no longer a problem for you, you still have your unbelief to deal with. Unbelief is a failure to demonstrate faith and Ephesians tells us it is through faith that God saves us by grace, Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; It is God that takes care of the unbelief by giving you faith when you approach him with a willing heart. Unbelief is unrighteousness, we must have righteousness to be saved, and the bible says we have imputed righteousness and when we believe in Jesus Christ, we are made the righteousness of God. After we have believed and been saved, we have the matter of our work, which Christ will judge at the Bema seat (the judgment seat of Christ). Rom 14:10...for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. 2Cor 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. 1Cor 3:12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; 1Cor 3:13 Every mans work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every mans work of what sort it is. 1Cor 3:14 If any mans work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. 1Cor 3:15 If any mans work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire. My friends do not be confused about what kind of work this scripture is referring to. It is not talking about how many charity balls you throw each year, nor is it about how many soup kitchen you operate, or how many hospital wards you sponsor, these things are all good, but they are not the subject of this work (these works are wood, hay, and stubble). The work that will be judged before the judgment seat of Christ is spiritual work; it is according to how you have built on the foundation of Jesus Christ. How have you built on this foundation, (have you been a good ambassador for Christ, how have you represent Christ and the message of the grace of God to the lost world) is your work gold, silver, precious stones, that can stand in the judgment of Christ. Or will your work be wood, hay, stubble that will be burned for it is sure that every mans work will be tried by fire to see what kind of work it is. Your work is not for salvation or forgiveness of sins, your work is for the purpose of reward. 1Cor 3:10 According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise master builder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon. 1Cor 3:11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Your sin has already been judged and found guilty and the penalty paid by Jesus Christ and will never need to be judged again. On the other hand, your work has not been judged nor will it be judged until the judgment seat of Christ. Where you will receive a reward or loss of reward according to your work, according to how you have built on the only foundation laid, Jesus Christ. Nevertheless, if you havent had your unbelief problem taken care of, it is not the judgment seat of Christ that you need to be worried about, your concern should be fixed on the Great White Throne Judgment where there will be no prevailing plea offered. The judgment seat of Christ and the great white throne judgment are two entirely different judgments at two different times for two different purposes and of two different groups of people.
