Jesus is God. Muslims have a strong objection to recognizing the divinity of Jesus. In the English translation of the Quran, two key statements are referenced frequently by Muslims… “They do blaspheme who say: ‘God is Christ the son of Mary.’ But said Christ, ‘O children of Israel, Worship God, my Lord and your Lord.’ Whoever joins other gods with God, God will forbid him the garden, and the fire will be his abode… for there is no god except One God.” - Sura 5:72, 73 “Christ Jesus the son of Mary was (no more than) an apostle of God, and His Word, which He bestowed on Mary, and a Spirit proceeding from Him.” – Sura 4:171 How can Christians answer? In Arabic, Jesus is called, “Kalamat Ullah,” or the Word of God. As the Word of God, Jesus “proceeded” from God into the world as a human being. In the Holy Injil (New Testament) Jesus is described as the eternal Word of God AND that He “was God.” “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made… And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the father, full of grace and truth.” – John 1:1-3, 14. During this Ramadan, I pray that Jesus would reveal Himself as the true Word of God and that we would be ready in any season to answer questions about our faith.
