“Jesus said.. ‘I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.” [John 6: 35]. The Lord Jesus makes astonishing promises! We saw previously that He promised the woman at Sychar’s well, “.. a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” [John 4: 14]. The Lord uses the illustrations of the basics of life, water and bread, to help His hearers focus on what is vital for physical life but they had difficulty understanding that He was also pointing to what is vital for spiritual, eternal life. Our Lord Jesus provides us with the water and bread we need for daily life, season by season. But He also wants to provide for our spiritual needs of forgiveness and peace with God. He can provide for us totally for time and into life after life, as we come to Him in faith and seek forgiveness.
