Jesus said, You didn’t choose me, remember; I chose you, and put you in the world to bear fruit, fruit that won’t spoil. As fruit bearers, whatever you ask the Father in relation to me, he gives you. John 15:16, MSG Salvation is a lot more than punching your ticket to heaven. Salvation is fruit-bearing, bearing fruit that will last. It is recapturing Gods purpose for man, imaging God. Or as the Apostle Peter put it, that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light (1 Peter 2:9). Over the years I have had people tell me that they are Christians because they said the sinners prayer, or walked down the aisle, or were baptized. And maybe they are truly saved. Except there is nothing observable in their lives that point to Christ. It makes no biblical sense for the fullness of the Godhead to dwell in a person and that persons life remains unchanged. If I have a child who says he is saved but shows no life of Christ in him, and I am not sure that he really knows Christ as his savior and God, I will beg my Lord Jesus Christ every day to save him. I will not trust a baptismal certificate nor a memory of him saying a prayer to give me confidence that he is truly a believer. In the years I have been around funeral homes I have never had a dead person ask me where the snack bar was nor the location of the restroom. Neither do dead trees produce green leaves, much less fruit. Jesus said, Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life (John 5:24). Life will produce some evidence, even the wiggling of the small toe, a heartbeat, a distaste for sin. Jesus said, This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples (John 15:8).
