Jesus sat down opposite the treasury, and began observing how the people were putting money into the treasury; and many rich people were putting in large sums. A poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which amount to a cent. Calling His disciples to Him, He said to them, ‘Truly I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all the contributors to the treasury; for they all put in out of their surplus, but she, out of her poverty, put in all she owned, all she had to live on.’- Mark 12:41-44 The poor widow must have believed that God would provide for and take care of her because she put in everything she had to live on! Can you imagine doing that? Can you imagine going to church one Sunday giving the exact amount that you had in your bank account as well as whatever you had at home? That’s exactly what Jesus said this woman did! One way to examine your trust and faith that God will provide is to take a look at your bank statement. Where is the bulk of your money going? What are you giving to? Your giving will be one indication of whether you believe God will or will not provide for your needs. We will give to the degree that we truly believe in God’s provision for us. When we really trust God to provide, we will be generous, but if we doubt to any degree, we will likely give much less. Your giving can be a tangible measuring stick of how much you really trust God to take care of you or your family..!!
