Jesus speaks to his disciples about suffering and witnessing. 1. FRUIT BEARING Jn.15:1-8 >The Son is the true vine >The Father is the gardener >The believer is the branch 11. LOVING (15:9-17) (THE BOUNDS OF REALITY) A-The priority The Father loves the Son The Son loves the believer The believer is to love other believers B-The proof C-The promise Application: Our branches will bear permanent fruit. Our prayers will be answered 111- Suffering (15:18-25) suffering suf.fer.ing suffering sufferings Suffering is serious pain which someone feels in their body or their mind. It has caused terrible suffering to animals... His many novels have portrayed the sufferings of his race. A- The facts 15:18-24 1- All Christians will be hated because Christ was hated. Joh 15:18 If the world hates you, know that it hated Me before it hated you. Joh 15:19 If you belonged to the world, the world would treat you with affection and would love you as its own. But because you are not of the world [no longer one with it], but I have chosen (selected) you out of the world, the world hates (detests) you. 2- No servant is greater than his master. Joh 15:20 Remember that I told you, A servant is not greater than his master [is not superior to him]. If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you; if they kept My word and obeyed My teachings, they will also keep and obey yours. Joh 15:21 But they will do all this to you [inflict all this suffering on you] because of [your bearing] My name and on My account, for they do not know or understand the One Who sent Me. 3- The reason for this hatred is Jesus fearless preaching against sin. Joh 15:22 If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no excuse for their sin. Joh 15:23 He that hateth me hateth my Father also. Joh 15:24 If I had not done among them the works which none other did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father. Biblical view: Joh 15:25 But [this is so] that the word written in their Law might be fulfilled, They hated Me without a cause. [Ps. 35:19; 69:4.] Psa 35:19 Let not those who are wrongfully my foes rejoice over me; neither let them wink with the eye who hate me without cause. [John 15:24, 25.] A- enemies wrongfully--by false and slanderous imputations. B- wink with the eye--an insulting gesture (Pro_6:13). C- without a cause--manifests more malice than having a wrong cause. What I never stole Must I now give back? Psa 69:4 Those who hate me without cause are more than the hairs of my head; those who would cut me off and destroy me, being my enemies wrongfully, are many and mighty. I am [forced] to restore what I did not steal.
