Jesus taught repeatedly from Scripture confirming its truth and unfailing longevity. Even as Jesus advanced the New Covenant of grace, He continually validated the Old Testament’s role and purpose within the fabric of our faith. Jesus said: “Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill. For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished.” (Matt 5:17-18). Jesus was clear that nothing previously given in Scripture was going to change. Neither the “Law or the Prophets” would be abolished but rather fulfilled (affirmed and illustrated) by His presence. The provision of the Messiah was not a change of plans but rather the fruition of God’s intent. Until “heaven and earth pass away” not even the tiniest mark of Scripture could be interrupted from its aim. (Taken from Why Biblical Counseling by Ab Abercrombie, to be released 2014).
