Jesus tells us to care for those in need. Matthew 25:40 (NIV); The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me. James, the brother of Jesus, echoed Jesus feelings toward helping others. James 2:14-17 (NIV); What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, Go in peace; keep warm and well fed, but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. When you pass a homeless person, how often do you try your best not to have eye contact? When you are dealing with someone in need, how often do you cringe at the thought of being physically touched by them? Mark 1:40-41 (TLB); Once a leper came and knelt in front of Him and begged to be healed. If you want to, you can make me well again, he pled. And Jesus, moved with pity, touched him and said, I want to! Be healed!” Did not Jesus encourage us to do likewise? Everyone and everything is placed in our path for a reason. God is the orchestrator of all things and we are called to respond. Bill Davis Lighthouse Ministries
