Jesus told the people who had faith in him, “If you keep on obeying what I have said, you truly are my disciples. You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31-32 – Contemporary English Version) According to Jesus himself, we experience true freedom when we decide to obey him and to love one another as we’ve been loved. This is the meaning of true discipleship. Sadly, the message shared by some Christians sounds more like bondage than freedom.
