Jeter remained relatively neutral on the topic, another Yankee hero was quick to rush to A-Rod’s defense: Mariano Rivera. Mo not only defended A-Rod’s actions, but put his trust in his former teammate, saying, “I really wasn’t following it, but he has the right to defend himself. That’s all I can tell you. It’s not difficult; I would have done it, too. Everyone has to defend themselves. In a situation like that, it’s hard; we are still human beings. Whatever he does, he is a grown-up; he has the right to defend himself. . . I don’t want to second guess no one. When he tells me something, I believe it. That’s my friend, and he tells me something, I’m going to believe it.” That might be the most Mo-like thing Mo has ever said. Gotta love the loyalty. In the meantime, we’re taking Jeter’s side: we’re ready for this to be over already.
