Jethro is our ADOPTABLE POINTER OF THE DAY! *ADOPT ME!* 2 years old, fostered in New York My name is Jethro and I absolutely love to cuddle – with anyone – as close as I can possibly get! I am happy to be where my people are. Mom or dad, even their 13 year-old son – he’s my favorite because he loves on me and plays with me. I like to play with my foster brother ‘Dozer and my favorite game is tug-o-war. I’m a fairly good listener and am learning some basic commands and manners on a leash. I have a pretty fancy dance that I do when it’s time to eat or when my mom or dad first wake up in the morning or come home from work. It’s my special way of saying “I’m so glad to see you!” I tested HW negative and am on a preventive. I’ve also been treated for fleas and ticks by my foster mom. I’m up to date on all my shots and was “tutored” four weeks ago. I know that most PRO fosters have a sad back ground, but I think mine is especially sad. See, when my foster mom starting teaching me commands, she figured out that I already knew what “whoa” and “okay” meant. I was surrendered to a shelter by a gentleman who had seen me at the same busy intersection for four days in a row. My mom is pretty sure that I was dropped there and told “whoa” and then I waited for the “okay” for those four days… I was only in the shelter for two weeks after that before being put on the PTS list. My foster mom and dad volunteered to take me in, and boy, am I glad they did! I am considered a special needs dog because I can’t see very well. The membrane that protects my retina is folded over in both eyes. This makes my brain think that my pupils need to let in more light so I can see. Because of this, I look bug-eyed all the time. (It took some getting used to for my foster mom.) I don’t like going outside in the dark unless there are lights on. I can’t play catch – that’s why my favorite toys are ropes and Nylabones. As much as I’d like to run in the field for birds, I can’t see them until they’re 20-30 feet in front of me – with no surrounding distractions. I need a yard that is free of small objects so I don’t trip over them. I get along with my foster brothers, another English Pointer and a Chocolate Lab, and some other breeds at the dog park. But dogs that are typically pack animals – with a hierarchy ingrained in them – such as Huskies, Akitas, Alaskan Malamutes, etc… are probably not a good mix for me. I don’t like it when they get in my face – they force me to warn them off. I would be better off as a single dog or in a two-dog home (myself being the second dog). So, if you like to cuddle or play tug-o-war, then I’m your boy! Oh, I almost forgot, I really could care less about the two cats that think the entire house belongs to them.
