Jett Webb is the hunter that nabbed the massive hog.CONETOE, NC - Its been an international media frenzy for one local hunter since 9 On Your Side first featured him in a story two days ago. Conetoe hunter Jett Webb recently shot and killed a massive wild hog. He spotted the 500-pound, 8-foot-long beast in Bertie County near Indian Woods. Once his story hit our airwaves, it started getting major media attention from across the country and the world, from CNN to Yahoo News to the Daily Mail in London. It even claimed the number three spot Thursday on the CBS News website for the most popular story. Channel 9 was actually the first to break it news-wise as far as doing a video clip on it. And from there, its just spun up out of control, to say the least,” said Jett Webb, hunter. “Ive been contacted by CNN, FOX, ABC, NBC, I mean theyve done segments on their evening news. Im just kind of taken back by it just being a country boy from ENC trying to put a little meat in his freezer. Webb says he expects his 15 minutes in the spotlight to fade as quickly as it came. But the experience will stay with him forever. --- Original Story --- A hunter in Bertie County shoots and kills a 500-pound wild hog. The massive animal didnt stand a chance against veteran hunter Jett Webbs .308 caliber rifle. It was very surreal,” recalls Webb. “It was a shock. It was very humbling to say the least, when you walk up on a beast that big and you say, Oh my gosh. I had no idea that there could be something that big running around the woods of Eastern North Carolina.’ Last month Webb spotted the beast roaming near the Indian Woods on land leased by the White Oak Ranch Hunting Club. It was the same one other hunters had been vying for since capturing it on trail cameras years ago. The Mohawk down the back,” Webb describes, “the tusks really lean, the muscular big front end. This is far from a domesticated docile pig that were used to. Mike Mansell, president of the White Oak Ranch Hunting Club, agrees this size hog game is rare. “It takes your breath away for a second to realize how big this hog is,” he says. “It took up the entire bed of the pick-up truck. Mansell says the pig is part of a growing wild boar population here in the East – one he estimates is doubling each year. They’re a species that is invasive,” he says. “Once you have them, youre not going to get rid of them. They just continue to multiply. Webb killed a similar-sized pig two years ago that’s now mounted on the walls of the hunting club. But this time around, he chose to only harvest the meat – filling two coolers to the brim with sausage, pork chops and tenderloin. We’re not going to waste anything,” Webb says. “So that pig will provide food for me and my family for a good year. As for any skeptics, Webb swears his picture is not photo-shopped and says most reaction online has been positive. It’s an experience that will go down in his record books as unforgettable. “I just set out to put a little meat in the freezer,” he says. “But afterwards I was completely blown away Jett Webb is the hunter that nabbed the massive hog.CONETOE, NC - Its been an international media frenzy for one local hunter since 9 On Your Side first featured him in a story two days ago.
