Jewel A., let me try to address your question in a bit more detail about the woman of Rev 12. First, as I mentioned, we need to go back to the beginning when God promised a redeemer after the fall. He said: Gen 3:15 I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; They will strike at your head, while you strike at their heel. The woman and her seed (Messiah) would share a single enmity against the serpent. Eve cannot be the woman as she just entered a pact with the devil to bring about mans fall. Israel alone cannot be the woman as she was constantly committing idolatry, killing Gods prophets etc. We know that Mary gave birth by her seed ALONE (virgin birth) to the Christ. Secondly, the trigger sign that the redeemer was coming was stated in Isaiah: Is. 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign. Behold a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son and his name shall be called Emmanuel. We see God telling us the sign that what He promised in Gen 3 would be. We know that Mary and Jesus are the fulfillment of that prophesy. Now, jump to Revelation 12. What SIGN do we see? A woman. Rev. 12:1 And a great SIGN appeared in heaven: A woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. Revelation 12:5 she brought forth a male child, one who is to rule all the nations with a rod of iron, but her child was caught up to God and to his throne. The Psalms tell us that child is Psalm 2:9 says with an iron rod you shall shepherd them. As you can see, the passage that introduces the woman. (Rev 12:1) describes her as The woman who brings forth a male child who will rule the nations with a rod of iron. (Rev 12:5) Only ONE woman gave birth to that child. Mary. Last, have you ever noticed that Mary is ALWAYS referred to as woman in Johns gospel. Is it any wonder that she is referred to as woman in his final book, Revelation? There are no coincidences in scripture.
