Jhelum flows above danger mark; Flood alert sounded; Highway closed Touches 28-ft at Sangam, 21-ft at Ram Munshi Bagh Shabir Ibn Yusuf Lastupdate at : Thu, 4 Sep 2014 09:49:06 IST Srinagar, Sep 4: In the wake of incessant rains, the Jhelum river crossed the danger mark at several places including Sangam in Anantnag and Ram Munshi Bagh in Srinagar, officials said. T hey said the water level of Jhelum river at Sangam was recorded to be 28.70 feet—at least 5 feet above danger mark. At Ram Munshi Bagh, the water level recorded is 21.55 feet, way above the danger mark. A flood alert has been sounded across Kashmir, officials said, adding, “people residing close to rivers flowing above the danger mark are advised to remain cautious and move to safer places.” Meanwhile, the Srinagar-Jammu highway—the only surface link of Kashmir with rest of the world—is closed due to due to landslides at several places, Inspector General of Police (Traffic) told Greater Kashmir.
