Jihad Spreads to Jammu! Is Jammu Better off as a separate state?! 3 hurt in firing of communal clashes in curfew-bound Kishtwar district which witnessed stray incidents of stone pelting while another seven persons including a a senior police officer sustained wounds in clashes, canecharge and teargas shelling in Jammu city. Protests were held in Jammu and adjoining districts of region, which observed bandh in protest against the communal clashes in Kishtwar district. Army troops patrolled the streets of the violence-hit district, 226 kms from here while the local administration advised people to remain indoors and not to violate prohibitory orders. Some clashes were reported in Gulabgarh area of Paddar in the same district where people indulged in arson. Some shops were burnt. 3 injured in firing during the clashes. State Police Chief Ashok Prasad was camping in the district since yesterday to take on-the-spot decisions besides ensuring coordination between the civil and army authorities, a senior official said. State Govt has asked people not to pay any attention to the rumours being floated about the incident and said that this was an attempt by vested interests to create a law and order situation in the Kashmir Valley as well as Jammu. Jammu bandh has been extended by 48 hours. Normal life was hit in Jammu and adjoining districts of the state due to today’s bandh called against Friday’s communal clashes in Kishtwar district that left two persons dead and over 20 injured. The Jammu and Kashmir Highway remained blocked at several places as protestors burnt tyres, sat on dharnas and put up barricades in Vijaypur in Samba, Rajpora in Kathua, Udhampur and Gangyal areas. A large number of BJP, Bajrang Dal and VHP activists today marched in the Jammu city to protest against Kishtwar violence and later clashed with police and CRPF personnel as they stopped them from moving ahead. There was stone-pelting and clashes with police, which resorted to canecharge and teargas shelling. Seven people were injured in the incident. They included four police and CRPF men. The city SP also sustained injuries, police said. All shops and business establishments remained closed and traffic was totally off the roads in Jammu city on the call given by the BJP and some other organisations to protest against yesterday’s incidents. The State Government had already closed all educational institutions in Jammu in view of the bandh. Attendance was thin in Government offices and other establisments. Reports from Kathua, Samba, Reasi, Katra, Udhampur, Chenani, Poonch, Vijaypur, Akhnoor, Sunderbani, Kalakote, Noushera, R S Pura and Ramnagar areas said a near total bandh was observed. A partial bandh was observed in Bhaderwah, Rajouri, Ramban and Doda areas there was partial bandh as people belonging to one community had closed their shops and business establishments. In Jammu, there were protests in various and anti-Government rallies taken out by BJP, Bar Association Jammu, VHP-Bajrang Dal, Shiv Sena, Trade Association to protest the incidents and demand that Minister of State for Home Sajad Kitchloo be sacked. Activists of BJP, BJYM, VHP, Bajrang Dal raised the anti-Government and anti-Kitchloo slogans and burnt tyres on roads in various areas of Jammu city. Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Region, Shantmanu told reporters that “Curfew is on for second day in Kishtwar. After deployment of Army, the situation has normalised but tension is still there”. The trouble in this district had erupted after a group of people raised anti-national slogans after Eid prayers. Meanwhile, Baseer Ahmed Khan today took charge as Deputy Commissioner, Kishtwar district after DC Mohmad Saleem and SSP Sunil Gupta were shunted out last night in the wake of the clashes. Gupta was shifted to the DGP’s office and Sanjay Kumar Kotwal has been transferred in his place. Jammu and Kashmir Government had last night ordered a high-level inquiry into the Kishtwar clashes
