Jim Kitson recalls a tram related story. Thanks for passing this on Jim :) I had a friend who was a motorman at Paddington Depot. His favourite service was the last tram of the day to Enoggera. After arriving at Enoggera, he would run the tram flat out back to the depot. This meant keeping the controller on full throttle and using the air brakes to control the corners, especially the curve at the Normanby Fiveways. On arrival at Roma Street station, he and his conductor would quickly reverse the poles and again go as fast as they could to the depot where the staff were waiting for this the last tram so they could stable the tram, count the conductors receipts and go home. My friend told me he would be in bed before the tram was scheduled to arrive at the depot. The staff were happy because it gave them an early night.
