Jim McDermott: So, there I was, just another troubled teenager around 16 years old, excluded from the traditional public school system, and in a last chance youth organization called the Neighborhood Youth Corp (NYC). NYC was an avenue to receive further education to help me prepare for my GEDs and to gain work experience. While apart of NYC, I worked within the Rhode Island DMV and IRS offices in Providence. I was paid a small amount weekly through NYC office, and I needed to go down to the Providence City Hall on Fridays to pick-up my weekly pay which was paid in cash from petty cash. Whenever I walked into City Hall, up in the rafters there was a giant poster displayed and it had a picture of Martin Luther King (MLK) and the inspired poster that helped to change my life for the better included this quote. A man who hasnt found something he is willing to die for is not fit to live. ~ MLK MLK was a brave man who stood up against Federal/Local/State governments overt & covert led injustices. MLK was a peaceful, passionate, and well educated leader who believed in a culture of individual freedom for all citizens. MLK led a peaceful group of Americans to overturn laws that were unreasonable and unjust. MLK cause for personal liberty took courage and I admire his strength. God bless the Libertarians, Independents, Critical Thinkers, Free Thinkers, and the Peace Makers. ~Jim McDermott, M.S.
