Jim Moore The Black Hole strikes home. Tina: Whats the deal with Monsanto? Ron: Why do you ask? Tina: I see signs about boycotting Monsanto. Ron: Well, Monsanto has been around since the early 1900s. It got a bad name for itself as it was one of a handful of companies that produced Agent Orange, and its main poison, Dioxin. It sold DDT, PCBs, the controversial dairy cow hormone, rBGH, and the cancer-linked Aspartame sweetener. Now the company is involved in genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and that started the ball rolling with gene alteration in food. The company has a PR problem for sure especially when it has sued farmers. Tina: I thought Monsanto had something to do with baseball. Ron: Uh, you might be thinking of Ron Santo. He played third base for the Cubs, did a stint as a sports announcer, and passed away a few years ago. Tina: Oh.
