Jimmy L. Smith, age 67, of Sweetwater, passed away November 20, 2014 at his residence. He was born in Sweetwater, where he spent the majority of his life. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, doing carpentry work, painting, and spending time with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Ruby Smith, and one brother, James Frederick Smith. Survivors include two sons, Jimmy L. Smith, Jr., of Michigan, and Richard Smith of South Carolina; a granddaughter, Makayla Smith; five sisters, Virginia Poneleit and Cora Davis, both of Sweetwater, Linda (Kevin) Bedker, of Royal Oak, MI, Jeri Yakust, of Utica, MI, and Susan Horn, of Florida; two brothers, William T. Smith, of Ludewici, GA and Earl C. Smith, of North Carolina; three step-daughters, Karen Burns, Regina Burns, and Carrie Burns. Several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and friends also survive. A funeral service will be conducted on Sunday, November 23, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Serenity Funeral Home with Dr. Lon Shoopman officiating.
