Jimmy Ruffin died Monday this week. This is a video of his biggest hit song, which he recorded in 1965 during a time when our country was horribly divided over issues like the Vietnam war, civil rights, and womens rights. Nearly 50 years later, this country is still horribly divided over issues like race, immigration, the environment, and mans humanity to man. Many of us are broken-hearted about how wealthy elites with political power are trying to take us back to the period before the 1960s. I think Jimmy Ruffins song speaks to those of us who see how our country of 2014 is so much like the country of 1965 with all its racial hatred, disdain for the poor, love of the rich, ignorance of the rest of the world, and no vision of the future except conspicuous consumption. What becomes of the broken-hearted? I think intelligent people who have social consciousness know the answer to that, and its not letting the Kochs and other members of the wealthy elites run our country.
