Jim’s Commentary on our 2014 candidates For what it’s - TopicsExpress

Jim’s Commentary on our 2014 candidates For what it’s worth… Here are my thoughts, opinions and picks on our local candidates. I am basing my opinions using their own words as expressed during the Harrison Daily Times’ 2014 Political Forum held at Northark’s Center Campus; the Durand Center. These are my insights and opinions and nothing more. Vote how you see fit but please do it by way of an educated decision. I would like to note that I do live about one mile out of the city limits so unfortunately I can not vote in those races HOWEVER what happens in Harrison most certainly affects me directly as it does everyone in Boone County. As such I feel it is my duty, right and responsibility to stand behind those candidates that are going to be doing what’s in the best interest of the citizens of the area. Also to note and this is VERY IMPORTANT to me I would like to see in writing or video a response to the following question from every candidate: “What will you do for the city or county if you do NOT win your race on November 4th?” If your intentions are not “self serving” or “agenda driven” then the answer to this question will come quickly and your true heart for public service will shine through. Of course a candidate has the right to not answer that question however silence will most certainly not earn my vote or support. I don’t believe I’m alone in that thinking. Thank you again to all of you for reading this and doing your part to get educated on this years election cycle. Our votes DO MATTER. Jim Bumgardner 10/17/14 Boone County Judge – Candidates: Robert Hathaway, Bobby Woods and Garry Bundy youtu.be/UqgUfGmSGoo Jim’s Pick – Bobby Woods For what it’s worth. My choice of Bobby Woods comes from what I see as the major need for the county; level headed leadership. I believe of the three candidates Woods will preside over the Quorum Court with much needed discipline with a foot planted solidly in Robert’s Rules of Order. Since Mike Moore left the position the court has been in shambles due to a lack of strong leadership. In regards to Robert Hathaway and Garry Bundy I have no doubt that both of those men are worthy of consideration. With Hathaway’s lengthy experience with the county his insight is unmatched however I believe that same commitment to one department could be a limiting factor in his perspective in other county matters. Bundy seems like a very upstanding man that you could easily trust to hold your wallet. I just don’t feel that at this stage he is ready for the emergency’s that can arise. Case and point: James Norton was a long time politician that took over a wel oiled machine from Mike Moore. But then came the Tea Party, the FEMA floodplain mapping and then Uh Oh, the rains… and then the floods. It was a huge mess and the Quorum Court has not been the same sense. Experience and strong leadership is a must!
