Jinn Disturbs Prayers The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Yesterday an ifreet from among the jinn pounced on me in order to interrupt my prayer, but Allah enabled me to catch him, and I strangled him and I wanted to tie him to one of the pillars in the masjid, so that everyone could look at him this morning. Then I remembered what my brother Sulaymaan had said, ‘and bestow upon me a kingdom such as shall not belong to any other after me,’ so Allah sent him back humiliated.” [Muslim] Among the many things which Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) subjugated to his Prophet Sulaymaan (alaihis salam), were the jinn and devils, so that they would do whatever he wished, and he was able to punish and imprison those among them who disobeyed him. “So, We subjected to him the wind; it blew gently by his order whithersoever he willed. And also the shayateen from the jinn (including) every kind of builder and diver. And also others bound in fetters.” [Quran: Surah Suad, Ayaat 36-38] “And there were jinn that worked in front of him, by the Leave of his Lord. And whosoever of them turned aside from Our Command, We shall cause him to taste of the torment of the blazing Fire.” [Quran: Surah Saba, Ayaat 12-13] The subjugation in this manner was the response of Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) to His slave Sulaymaan (alaihis salam) when he prayed to Him and said: “And bestow upon me a kingdom such as shall not belong to any other after me.” [Quran: Surah Suad, Ayat 35] This is the Dua that prevented our Prophet Muhammad (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) from tying the jinn to the pillar. From this hadith we learn that the evil ones from among the jinn do try to interrupt our communication with Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) while we pray.
