Jinxed Freezer. Take Two. I have a long saga written out with the twists and turns, but it took a decidedly different turn today. I can post the whole story, if anyone is interested, which I doubt. We took Jim McReadys advice in that we told Lowes people that we were calling the corporate office if we hadnt heard from them shortly. They called this morning and said they were on their way with a new lid. When they arrived, it was with a skin, a cosmetic cover for the freezer. The delivery guys (always nice - and innocent of the mess it had become) looked at the leak, agreed that a skin probably would not be the answer, that it definitely needed a new lid to stop the frosting, and leak. I went out just in time to hear that they could not install it, but someone from the store could, at a cost of $79 plus $2 a mile over 20 miles, and if they did it, or Ray did it, it would void the warranty. Void The Warranty. Several phone calls back and forth finally agreed that a local appliance company would come do it, at their expense. After the delivery guys told them the skin would not solve the problem regardless, we finally had a call that we did not generate, and one of the newer managers said he had caught up on our file, and that now HE was mad at GE, because they would not send a lid. (I started cursing at the No Warranty thing - Ray does not cuss, Im sure I embarrass him, but years of running an Ex-Offender program die hard.) Anyway, he said he was sending us a new Whirlpool freezer that was more expensive, made in the USA, and he measured it, and it would fit in the cubby hole that Ray had so carefully made for it, and that it would be here late this afternoon. This meant that we had to empty the freezer, and Ray had to - once again - take down the door and the wall to get one freezer out and one in. Not just an easy task. The delivery truck arrived well after dark, around 7, and loaded up the bent up junk, and unloaded - Are you ready? - a 22 cu ft. Whirlpool freezer that is MUCH too much freezer for us, and, cost twice as much. It does not near fit in the cubbyhole, and is taking up too much room, but after a short period of being in a snit over it, I joined Ray in being happy about it, and he is building the wall back tomorrow. We may have to put it at the other end of the porch, replacing the couch, but this one has a super strong top and we can sit on it to watch the sun go down. Tomorrow will show if Lowes realizes that they have not only sent a freezer 6 cu ft. bigger, and twice as expensive, but that we are keeping the $100 gift certificate, too. Muhahhahahaha! This is much too long, be glad I didnt post the entire story - I just put it in the Text file. It could be a short story. Our only problem right now is that $100 - neither of us wants to go into Lowes to spend it! Does anyone need any extra freezer space? Available right here!
