Joan Crawford: She entered the era as a flapper, and graduated to playing morally strong, non nonsense ladies in rags-to- riches stories that the Depression audience loved to see. She was not a trained actress ant it shows, but a raw quality in her acting in powerful and always pulled her trough. Not to mention she was a women determined to succeed and she have both her body and soul to the character she played (also visible if you watch more of her movies). She was MGMs biggest star, next to Greta Garbo and Clark Gable, and belted out some impressive movies opposite several great leading men of the day. Married for a time to Franchot Tone, an incredible altought neglected actor.
