Joan Rivers was sometimes crass and sometimes downright inappropriate. But, that is one of the roles that comedians play in our society. They test the waters. They take our temperature. They push the edge of the envelope. And no one did it better than Joan. She came from the era of Phyllis Diller and Don Rickles, but managed to stay relevant into the era of Tracy Morgan and Kathy Griffin. She has been a part of my consciousness as long as I can remember. I recall watching her on the Merv Griffin show when I was but a mere child. Sail on, Joan. Thanks for making us laugh and pushing our buttons.
