Joann Cummings: WELL... GUESS WHAT JUST HAPPENED!! COMING SOON! As of today November 19th, Insurers have been authorized to let you purchase your ACA compatible, in the Marketplace health plan DIRECTLY from them AND still get the tax subsidy. It is called DIRECT ENROLLMENT, and it allows BCBS to sell you Marketplace-compatible insurance. This was the plan ALL ALONG, but there were SO MANY GLITCHES in the behind-the-scenes software, that the Feds could not allow the insurers to do this until the major problems had been fixed. So now that they can do it, it will take a few days for insurers and insurer brokers to activate their interaction systems to help consumers directly. In Alabama, if you live in one of the 64 counties that has ONLY Blue Cross as an option, this means that you will be able to buy from them very soon. However, if you live in a state/region that has choice from MORE THAN ONE insurer, these private companies are in NO OBLIGATION to tell you about the OTHER companies plans, so it may be better to deal with an insurance broker, or just stick with the Federal or state operated Marketplace.-- Joann Cummings cnn/2013/11/19/politics/health-care-website-bypass/index.html
