Job 8:2-4 How long will you say these things, and the words of your mouth be a great wind? Does God pervert justice? Or does the Almighty pervert the right? If your children have sinned against him, he has delivered them into the hand of their transgression. In chapter six Job responds to Eliphaz and maintains that he hasnt done anything wrong. He states there is a reason for his complaint in that these things have happened to him and he doesnt know why. he knows for sure it is not because he has sinned. We talked previously about being a good support to friends. Job was surely hoping that he would receive some emotional support, a show of sympathy, or words of encouragement from his friends, but the first thing out of Bildads mouth is him saying Jobs words are a great wind, or that hes full of hot air. Those are obviously not encouraging words from Bildad. What is worse is that Bildad makes insensitive comments regarding Jobs children. He basically says that if Jobs children have sinned they got their punishment for it when they were killed. I have to admit this would probably make me angry if this was said to me after just losing my children tragically only a week or so ago. Bildad gave no evidence to prove what he was saying. Looking back at when Satan was trying to cause Job to turn against God, he went after Jobs children and they were killed. If you really want to take the life out of someone, or if you want to hurt them in the worst way, it is not by inflicting physical pain or by taking away material possessions. It is by going after their family. Especially their children. That hurts the most. So, not only does Satan inflict Job with this emotional pain of the loss of his children, but now Jobs own friend makes this comment regarding his children. If we are a parent we need to give our best effort to keep Satan from harming our children. That means showing them how to live a life for God, and being a Godly example for them in all aspects of life; teaching them about Gods love and His will for all of us through His word. We are all children of someone and as children we need to live in such a way that we dont cause suffering for our parents by allowing Satan to rule in our lives. If you have faithful parents, they certainly want you to be faithful to God as well. We dont want our parents to suffer emotionally. Whether we are a child, parent, grandchild, or grandparent, we are all children of God. And if we are His children, then we need to live in such a way that it does not cause Him to be disappointed and sad. This is exactly how Satan wants it to be. He wants us to turn from God. Dont give him the satisfaction. I believe Job was the right example for his children. He made sacrifices for them, and showed them what caring for others and serving God faithfully was all about. Job didnt respond to Bildads comment about his children. Im sure he felt no need to respond because he knew the truth and Bildad did not. Maybe Job was confident that his children were taught the right way. ~Luke
