Job Announcement - Research Assistant Social Justice and Development Policy in the Arab World Position: Research Assistant - Full-time Duration: 1 year, with possible renewal Background: The Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs (IFI) in collaboration with the Mamdouha S. Bobst Center for Peace and Justice at Princeton University has launched the Social Justice and Development Policy in the Arab World project to try to further understand through research the many different meanings of the phrase “social justice” and its implications for social, political, and economic policy. The aim of the Social Justice and Development Policy in the Arab World project is to refine broad social justice categories and launch regional workshops to further shape our analysis of the meaning of social justice. We hold lectures, panel discussions and roundtables with experts that define and initiate research. We expect our program to become a credible and useful platform to empirically study the aftermath of the Arab uprisings and help policy-makers design better policies in the fields of social and economic development. Responsibilities: Conduct research on a broad range of topics related to social justice, including but not limited to labor movements, public spaces, and right to housing in the Arab world. Synthesize existing literature (from academic journals, think-tanks publications, NGOs, international organizations, and others) on these topics into literature reviews, memos, and concept notes. Continuously update the program’s database. Attend and participate in relevant forums, events, and conferences and write respective summaries. Help with editing and proofreading of publications. Assist with the organization of meetings, workshops, lectures, and conferences related to the project. Provide needed administrative support. Skills Required: Research experience, preferably related to research topic Good administrative, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to be pro‐active, independent, efficient, and work under demanding deadlines. Excellent language skills in Arabic and English with prior research experience in Arabic. French is a plus. Candidates with master’s degree in relevant fields are preferable but candidates with a bachelor’s degree with good research experience will also be considered.
