IDEA-3D, a startup at Technology Business Incubator (TBI), BITS-Pilani, Hyderabad Campus invites applications for Research Scientist position with an expected start date of August 14, 2014. The research specialties of particular interest are: • Bioplastics for 3-D printing applications: Development of bio-based formulations for 3-D printing applications. The formulations will be based on a variety of biomaterials and biopolymers. The project is funded by Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) as part of their Biotechnology Ignition Grant (BIG) scheme. • Development of bioadhesives, biocomposites and bioplastics from biomaterials and agricultural waste, byproducts of ethanol production and biomaterials. The successful candidate will: • Develop printable filament prototypes wherein the formulation and processing characteristics have been optimized for printing specifications. Further, the developed printable filament should meet requirements such as, reduced material and process cost, processability and are non-hazardous and biocompatible. • Manage the laboratory and advise and mentor undergraduate students. Minimum Qualification: 1. Completion of all requirements for a MSc. or M.Tech. in Biotechnology or Chemical Engineering. 2. Research credentials in Biotechnology or Chemical Engineering with an emphasis on biomaterials and bioplastics. 3. A background that provides preparation for research excellence in laboratory bench work involving product development (Development and optimization of processing parameters in obtaining printable filaments). 4. Good oral and written communication skills. 5. Strong interpersonal skills. 6. Some demonstrated success in original research, and publication in archival journals. 7. Some experience with oral presentations at national or international scientific meetings. 8. Interest in collaboration with Industry. This is a 18-month full-time position with an expected start date of August 14, 2014 with possible extension. The successful candidates primary appointment will be at the TBI, BITS-Pilani, Hyderabad campus. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and is stipulated at Rs. 25,000 per month and is negotiable for the right candidate.
