Job Description: Upon entering the profession you can expect to receive guidance from the supervisor(s), consultant or principal in charge of an engagement or project working with clients from small to mid-sized industries in Healthcare, Not-for-Profit, Financial Services, Manufacturing, Telecommunications, Utilities, Construction, Forest Products, Higher Education and others. Work performed will be closely supervised through coaching and training. With guidance from staff members of the firm and of the general industry group, you will become familiar with the firms systems, operations and relationships. At the onset you will receive extensive internal and external training including teamwork, technical and soft skills. The firm expects you to demonstrate flexibility, have a willingness to seek out advice, and exhibit an ambition for learning. Some of the duties and responsibilities are listed below: • Participating with team members on tax engagements supervised by senior staff members • Work with trial balance and document management software (CaseWare) • Utilize deprecation solution software (DSW) to maintain fixed assets and calculate depreciation • Utilize Tax Return Software (ProSystems) in preparing corporate and partnership tax returns to be reviewed by senior members • Other duties as assigned We anticipate that after a year, you will be able to perform increasingly complex functions with little or no direct supervision. Client relationship skills should become evident but do not include giving unapproved advice or making recommendations directly to the client. In addition to on the job training, continued development in interpersonal skills and technical knowledge is expected through participation in training programs and self-study as outlined in the professional growth continuum. After gaining appropriate experience, you should see increased client contact, more complex technical challenges, beginning supervisory responsibilities, and a movement towards specialization. As opportunities are explored and experience is gained, you are expected to consult with the manager or principal on problems and offer recommended solutions. While demonstrated technical competence is necessary, you should also demonstrate human relations skills in dealing with supervised staff, supervisors, firm members, client personnel and the public. We encourage involvement in civic and professional activities. Obtaining your MST, working on certifications or other relevant technical designations, as appropriate at this level, is strongly encouraged.
