Job Opportunity: BC Healthy Connections Project Research Assistant / Scientific Field Interviewer | Position Description | July 29, 2013 Dr. Charlotte Waddell, Director of the Children’s Health Policy Centre (CHPC), Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS), Simon Fraser University (SFU) is seeking a qualified individual for a full­‐time Research Assistant/Scientific Field Interviewer (RA) position. Nurse­‐Family Partnership (NFP) is a landmark targeted prevention program designed to improve the lives of vulnerable young first­‐time mothers and their children. The Children’s Health Policy Centre (CHPC), in collaboration with McMaster University, is leading the first Canadian randomized controlled trial (RCT) evaluation of NFP in BC, entitled the BC Healthy Connections Project (BCHCP). Reporting directly to the BCHCP Scientific Director and research team and liaising with research participants, public health nurses and other Health Authority staff, the RA will play a role in the implementation process of the RCT, including, but not limited to: preparing study documents, assisting with training new RAs, recruiting research participants; scheduling and conducting interviews (telephone and in home) using computer ‐assisted interviewing techniques with participants living in the Interior Health Authority; participating in on-­‐going training and team meetings; performing data input and extraction; preparing site report summaries; maintaining secure and up-­‐to-­‐ date study recruitment and data collection records; providing coverage for other ific Field Interviewers as required; and performing other related tasks as required. The qualified candidate must: be able to travel within the Interior Health Authority; have a valid BC driver’s license; have regular access to an insured vehicle; and have flexible hours (including the ability to work some evenings and weekends). A graduate degree in a related discipline (e.g., nursing, psychology, counseling, health sciences) or an undergraduate degree with minimum of three years of related experience is required. Experience conducting interviews in a research or clinical setting is essential. This position requires superior interpersonal, organizational, computer literacy and communications skills (oral d written). The RA must also be comfortable and non-­‐ judgmental in working with diverse pulations and in diverse environments.
