This is the one of four shipyards that ECO owns and operates. Designing and constructing vessels only for ECO and affiliated companies, NAS built the first U.S. Antarctic icebreaking research vessel, the largest and most powerful anchor handling vessel in the U.S. fleet, the first dynamically positioned vessel in the U.S. fleet, the worlds first floating production system installation vessel, and the largest water throw capacity vessel in the U.S. fleet. NAS consistently ranks among the finest shipyards in the world, currently employing over 750 in skilled positions. NAS has a formal welding training program and on-the-job apprenticeship training for all other trades. The shipyards health and safety program is second to none, paying tens of thousands of dollars to shipyard workers in cash safety bonuses every quarter. NAS also provides an on-site housing facility, a medical clinic, and a large, modern cafeteria to accommodate its workers. Job Description: Installs and repairs wiring, fixtures, and all equipment for electrical services aboard ships, vessels, in shipyard facilities, or at remote locations to perform work that is related to shipyard operations. Working Conditions: Scheduled days cover Monday thru Friday. Weekends and holidays as required. May be required to work at remote locations other than at shipyard facility. Work is performed in all kinds of weather. Subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions. Subject to electrical and mechanical hazards, ultra violet light, vibration and noise. May be required to work off of scaffolding and ladders, working at height and over water. May work alone and in confined spaces. May be subject to very dramatic temperature changes such as when entering or exiting a tank. Also present are fumes, smoke, dust, gases, chemicals, and hydrocarbons. Protective clothing, hearing and eye protection, hardhats, safety shoes or boots, and respiratory protection are all to be work accordingly. Essential Job Functions (listing most important first): 1. Work is performed according to blueprints, lay-out drawings, wiring diagrams, or by oral instruction. 2. Installs conduit to walls or bulkheads with brackets and screws using hand tools. May tack weld brackets using welding equipment. May cut metal with cutting torch for the purpose of installing brackets or wiring. 3. Threads wires through conduit or hangers to terminals such as connection boxes, circuit breakers, voltage regulators, and switch panels. 4. Strips insulation from wire ends and connects ends using screw type connectors, or solders ends to terminals using hand tools and soldering iron. 5. Connects power supply circuits to radio, radar, sonar, fire control, mechanical power systems, and other electronic equipment. 6. Tests electrical characteristics such as voltage, resistance, and phase angle in circuits using voltmeters, ohmmeters, and phase rotation indicators. 7. May construct instrument panels using hand tools, rulers, and power tools. 8. Performs other incidental tasks such as transporting tools, materials, and supplies. May use overhead cranes. May also operate company vehicles. Essential Job Requirements: Education and Vocational: Must be able to read and write alphabetically and numerically. Vocational education; high school, commercial or shop training, or technical school. On the job training; serving as a trainee on the job under the instruction of a qualified worker. Must be able to pass company specified written and oral exam to qualify as a potential hire. Physical Requirements: Repetitive sequences that require balancing, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger manipulation, grasping, feeling, seeing, hearing, and speaking. The U.S. Dept. of Labor classifies this job as medium work, exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for light work. Pay is based on experience. Regularly scheduled overtime. Work includes new build vessels, vessel repair and retrofits. Must apply in person and able to pass drug screen and physical. Compensation: NAS offers stable employment in a very volatile industry. We are not a contract outfit and only conduct in-house work. For the engineering department, we prefer direct-hire employment. Pay will be hourly and discussed at the time of interview. Our pay is commensurate with experience and very competitive with the rest of the industry. Annual bonuses are issued based on performance. Housing is available during work week if needed.
