General Description: (Detailed ToR available at benguelacc.org): Long description The Benguela Current Commission (BCC) is a multi-sectorial intergovernmental Large Marine Ecosystem (LME) Commission concerned with the sustainable and optimal use and management of the living and non-living marine resources through an integrated approach to ocean governance. To fulfil its mandate, the BCC implements an ocean governance programme focused on transboundary areas and issues based on priorities identified in the Strategic Action Plan (SAP, 2014) and, it enables the implementation of an ecosystem-based approach to management of the Benguela Current Large Marine Ecosystem (BCLME). To achieve its objectives, the BCC engages in partnerships and networks with donors, projects, programmes and, research/ academic institutions at national, regional and international scales. Globally there is growing interest in the BCC as the world’s first LME commission and the BCLME and the Commission uses this to advance science and research for improved management of the ecosystem and ensure sustainable development. Roles and Responsibilities: The primary role of the Ecosystem Coordinator (EC) shall be the implementation and coordination of the BCC’s integrated and multi-sectorial scientific programme in the region. Only candidates who are nationals of SADC can apply with preference to those from the BCC Member States of Angola, Namibia and South Africa.
