Major Duties: Opens recreation center and gymnasiums; resets alarm systems; opens senior center complex and other buildings Sets up and takes down tables and chairs and sports equipment to accommodate various activities Maintains backup computer tape for information systems concerning server at community center Creates and updates ID cards and pool passes for patrons; maintains files and records; makes room reservations; makes shelter reservations Answers the telephone; provides information or transfer calls to appropriate personnel Maintains electronic thermostats, alarm systems, and clocks for various buildings Performs custodial duties; maintains and restocks supplies Performs other related duties as assigned Qualifications: Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years Additional Information: KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION: Knowledge of relevant city, state, and federal laws, regulations, and policies Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures Knowledge of recreation center regulations and guidelines Knowledge of recreation center equipment and facilities Skill in the use of computers and various software programs Skill in the operation of computers and other types of modern office equipment Skill in oral and written communication SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The Recreation Supervisor assigns work in terms of somewhat general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with instructions and established procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results. GUIDELINES: Guidelines include software user instructions, division rules and regulations, and supervisory instructions. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but may require some interpretation in application. COMPLEXITY: The work consists of related administrative duties. The need to coordinate events with several parties contributes to the complexity of the position. SCOPE AND EFFECT: The purpose of this position is to assist in the supervision of the day-to-day activities of the recreation center. Successful performance results in an improved quality of life for city residents. PERSONAL CONTACTS: Contacts are typically with coaches, youth organization representatives, students, parents, instructors, members of the general public, and co-workers. PURPOSE OF CONTACTS: Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, to resolve problems, and to provide services. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects and climbs ladders. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is typically performed in a recreation center. The employee may be exposed to machinery with moving parts. SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY: None.
