To develop and define network and wireless design features to meet Customer requirements. To use network and wireless tools to evaluate and troubleshoot network and wireless performance. To analyse and evaluate network and wireless designs to verify compliance with System requirements. Main Responsibilities: Reporting to the DCS Manager or DCS Team Lead, the incumbent is accountable for performing the work correctly, within cost and schedule limits, as defined in approved work packages. The Network Design Specialist typically works with a team of engineers to define what will be designed and deployed, how it will perform and how it will be determined that it is working correctly. Technical · Designs IP based wired and wireless networks (802.11) meeting security and availability requirements for train control systems, including network interconnection drawings and IP schemes. · Prepares network subsystem requirement specifications. · Performs wireless design, analysis, measurement and testing tasks to satisfy the requirements of regulatory authorities and to procure the certification and/or licenses required. · Prepares and supports preparation of design & development proposals based on knowledge of radio communications technology, customer requirements and backed by analysis, simulation and trade-off of key design driving requirements. · Prepares specialised radio system analyses based on engineering skills and detail knowledge of digital radio communications, covering one or more of the following: · Radio link budgets; · Antennas and propagation in the 1 to 50 GHz range; · RF component performance and specifications; · Regulatory requirements; · EMI / EMC. · Analyzes Interface Control Documents to derive network security requirements, firewall and VPN policies and configurations. · Specifies hardware required to meet network, server and WS requirements. · Identifies hardware for end-of-life replacements. · Configures network devices, including switches, routers, and firewalls. · Configures WLAN and RF equipment. · Installs and configures Windows servers and workstations. · Installs and configures Security Devices (OpenBSD) and understands IPSEC configuration. · Resolves site queries, attends site meetings (during business and non-business hours) and performs site inspections/installations/ troubleshooting during the various phases of projects. · Installs and configures SQL databases. · Prepares network administration documentation for configuring and maintaining network devices. · Follows formal engineering processes for tracking configurations and releasing documentation. · Prepares and executes test procedures for validating network implementations. · Accurately reports work progress and estimates to complete against work packages assigned by his/her lead/manager. · Develops, implements and maintains tools relevant to the DCS function. Assists in the assessment of relevant tools. · Supports proposals by preparing network designs, equipment lists and labour estimates. Management: · Performs duties of DCS project lead, taking responsibility for meeting project milestones, and assigning tasks to other DCS team members providing support. · Prepares and maintains work package agreements and updates schedules and ETC. Travel Requirement: · The job requires domestic and international travel. Key Skills and Responsibilities: •Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Computers or equivalent. Masters degree is preferable. •3-10 years working experience in radio/wireless and network technology required. •Should have practical training or experience in information technology, network management (Layer 2 and Layer 3), firewall management, VPN configurations, Windows and UNIX OS configuration and administration. •Strong knowledge of digital radio communications, specifically IEEE 802.11 family of standards. The industry recognised radio-certification such as CWNA shall be desirable. •Knowledge of propagation in the ISM bands in open-air and tunnel environments. •Detailed Knowledge of LAN-based networks and technologies, specifically IEEE 802.3 standards. An industry certification (such as CCNP) shall be desirable.•Detailed Knowledge of various security concepts and implementations as applied to radio and wired networks •Good knowledge of Windows OS, Unix/Linux, perl scripting, C/C++ programming · Good technical English language writing skills; good communication and analytical skills. · Good planning and organization skills. · Experience with DOORS, or equivalent, based requirements tool, is desirable.e
