Job ch 40-42 God continues to question Job. He asks him did he want to continue to challenge him and criticize him. Job’s response: Job tells God “no” because now he realizes that man’s wisdom is limited, and he will never know enough to challenge God. God speaks: God ask Job, “Will you discredit me and condemn me just to prove you are right? Are you stronger than me? Can you thunder with a voice like mine? Can you humiliate the proud with a look and bring the wicked down?”etc Then God tells Job about the Behemoth and the Leviathan. Both creatures are enormous, strong, and feared by man and beast. The only thing they are afraid of is their creator. This raised the question: If man fears the Behemoth and the Leviathan, and the Behemoth and the Leviathan fear God, why doesn’t man fear God or is afraid to challenge him? Job repents for questioning God . He is told to pray for his three friends, and the restoration process begins: 1) God restores his relationship with his family and friends. His family and former friends came to comfort him and console him. 2) God restores his finances. Each person brought him money and a gold ear ring. 3) God restores the livestock that was stolen and destroyed by lightening. He ends up with 14,000 sheep, 6,000 camels, 1,000 teams oxen, and 1,000 female donkeys. 4) God blesses him with more children, 7 sons and 3 daughters, and he gave all of them an inheritance 5) God restored his health. He lived another 140 years after that and saw his grand and great grandchildren to the 4th generation. This made his latter greater than his beginning because he had twice as much as before. *In the end, Job admits he questioned God out of ignorance and makes a profound statement: “I have heard of thee by the hearing: but now mine eyes seeth thee”. People told him about the goodness of the Lord, but now he sees it for himself. This bit of revelation was vital because the testimonies of others can only encourage you, but your personal ones will strengthen your faith.
