The Foundation is a non-profit agency founded to support the University. Established in 1959, the Foundation has seen continual growth in staff to support the growing number of grants and contracts awarded. The Promise Neighborhoods Initiative is a U.S. Department of Education initiative launched in April 2010 focused on breaking the cycle of inter-generational poverty by significantly improving the educational and developmental outcomes and overall life prospects of children and youth in our most distressed communities. Inspired by the success of Harlem Children’s Zone, the Obama Administration has followed through on campaign promises to alleviate poverty with a national commitment to this comprehensive education-centered, place-based approach to support children from birth to college and career. The core idea behind the initiative is that providing both effective schools and strong systems of support to children and youth in poverty and, thus, meeting their health, social services, and educational needs, will offer them the best hope for a better life. Under the general supervision of the Dean of the College of Education and Allied Studies, and in close collaboration with the Program Manager of the Hayward Promise Neighborhood (HPN), the Resident Engagement Specialist will lead and facilitate comprehensive strategies for resident engagement and leadership across all aspects of the work. The individual will work to deepen trust and credibility among community residents, the University and other HPN partners. This position will develop and maintain contacts with partners and community leaders as a basis of extending and strengthening community understanding and support of the Hayward Promise Neighborhood initiative. The primary work in this position will be done in collaboration with the HPN Principal Investigator, Project Manager and the Directors of the three HPN networks - Early Learning Network (ELN), Cradle to Career Educational Reform network (C2CERN) and Neighborhood Health and Empowerment Network (NHEN) to embed resident engagement and leadership in their work to achieve the mission, vision and sustainability of HPN. • Full-Time, benefited, exempt, temporary position • Salary range for position is: $43,260 - $54,615 annually • Anticipated Salary range for position is: $43,260 - $50,000 annually
