Job posting for: CERTIFIED TEACHER –Secondary Science Location: Menlo Park Academy (Northeast Minneapolis, conveniently located on the #11 bus line) Reports to: Director, Menlo Park Academy Status: Full-Time, Exempt, School Year (August 4, 2013-June 5, 2014) Broad Scope and Function of Job: Responsible daily for four classroom hours of teaching at-risk high school students. Planning will include developing curriculum to meet the State Standards. Works with the Director to develop and carry-out day-to-day programming in alternative high school. Major Job Responsibilities: Is responsible for, but not limited to, the following: Teacher Functions: - Teaches assigned hours M-F of differentiated high school level classes in several science areas. - Maintains teaching credentials, including a waiver in additional science areas. - Works with advisory group, including individual advisee meetings. Team Function: -Works with Director and other staff on day-to-day program development. -Participates in weekly PLC and PBIS meetings. -Keeps necessary records and provide reports. -Works on achievement goals and objectives. -Builds awareness of resources at ESNS and acts as referral to these resources. Is in direct contact with parents and youth where confidential matters are discussed. Job Requirements and Qualifications: Education: Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education- Science, with current Minnesota teaching license. Experience: Classroom experience preferred. Relevant experience with at-risk youth and previous experience in an alternative school setting, a plus. Other Qualifications: Demonstrated ability to: a) Relate to people of varied ethnic, cultural backgrounds, ages and economic circumstances. b) Form significant, caring relationships. c) Initiate, develop and organize one’s own tasks. d) Work in cooperative team relationships with agency staff and community. e) Properly/appropriately handles confidential information. f) Creative. g) Confident. h) Team player.
