Jobs go at Telford X Factor CD factory after company goes into liquidation A CD manufacturer which makes discs for The X Factor will officially appoint liquidators next week. Sound Performance Manufacturing, which is based in London but has its factory in Telford, made dozens of staff redundant over Christmas. The company, which manufactures CDs, DVDs, cassettes and vinyl, with their key customers including The X Factor, Sony and EMI, employed around 40 people at the time. Now insolvency practitioners from the Birmingham branch of BDO LLP have been brought in. They will hold a creditors meeting in Birmingham on Wednesday, January 21, when they will be officially appointed as liquidators for the stricken company. In a letter to staff last month, director Chris Marksberry said: “The company, due to its financial position, is unable to continue operations and your employment will cease. “This is due to a decline in business which has resulted in the company having to cease trading.” One worker, who did not wish to be named, said that staff members were told of the news by factory bosses and sent home immediately just two days before Christmas. The worker said: “They held a meeting in the factory, at which they said it would be very likely that the factory would shut down due to its financial struggles. “People were told to collect their personal belongings and leave the factory immediately. Everybody is really angry about the way it has been done.”
