Jock Cousin (Balmaha) has asked us to share the information below about a new memorial Plaque. The Memorial plaque was stolen from the Memorial at the base of Ben Lomond I have been in contact with the Park Ranger Services via their Community Liaison Officer to do something about replacing the plaque. I have managed to have a commemorative stone produced via a friend in Devon and have had it sent to my place in Balmaha (at no cost) once the Park Authorities and the Forestry Commission are able to organise the placing of the stone it it hoped that a special service will be conducted in order to highlight the significance of the Memorial and to remember those that it was placed there to honour. Back ground: Since 1995 the area around Ben Lomond, including the mountain summit has been designated as a war memorial, called the Ben Lomond National Memorial Park. The park is dedicated to those who gave their lives in the First and Second World Wars and was created out of the former Rowardennan Estate with support of the National Heritage Memorial Fund. The Memorial Park was officially opened on Armistice Day in 1997 by the Rt Hon Donald Dewer, then Secretary of State for Scotland and later becoming the first First Minister of Scotland. In 2002 the Scottish Parliament created the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, the first national park in Scotland. The national park entirely encompasses the Ben Lomond National Memorial Park As a person who spent 28 years in the British Military as a fighting Soldier and a Scottish patriot I believe this project to be of significant importance not only for those that have gone before but for all those who come after to Visit Scotland and this wonderful area. I would be most grateful if you could pass this message onto those within the legion in Scotland who would like to support this cause and particular to those that might be in a position to influence and perhaps get involved by showing their support. yours aye Jock & Gwen Cousin Managers/Operators Balmaha House Bunkhouse & Canoe Hire 01360 870 218 07921293285 balmahahouse.co.uk You can also find us on face book @ Balmahouse House Bunkhouse & Canoe Hire
